Spin dephasing in quantum wires

چکیده
We study high-field spin transport in a quantum wire using a semiclassical approach. Spin dephasing (or spin depolarization) in the wire is caused by D’yakonov-Perel’ relaxation associated with bulk inversion asymmetry (Dresselhaus spin-orbit coupling) and structural inversion asymmetry (Rashba spin-orbit coupling). The depolarization rate is found to depend strongly on the initial polarization of the spin. If the initial polarization is along the axis of the wire, the spin depolarizes 100 times slower compared to the case when the initial polarization is transverse to the wire axis. We also find that in the range 4.2 K 50 K, temperature has a weak influence and the driving electric field has a strong influence on the depolarization rate. The steady state distribution of the spin components parallel and transverse to the wire axis also depend on the initial polarization. If the initial polarization is along the wire axis, then the steady state distribution of both components is a flat-topped uniform distribution, whereas if the initial polarization is transverse to the wire axis, then the distribution of the longitudinal component resembles a Gaussian, and the distribution of the transverse component is U-shaped. Shot noise of spin-polarized charge currents as a probe of spin coherence in spin-orbit coupled nanostructures
We generalize the scattering theory of quantum shot noise to include the full spin-density matrix of electrons injected from a spin filtering or ferromagnetic electrode into a quantum-coherent nanostructure governed by arbitrary spin-dependent interactions. This formalism yields the spin-resolved shot noise power for different experimental measurement setups—with ferromagnetic source and ferrom...
متن کاملMagnetoelectric Mapping as Observed in Quantum Coherence Phenomena under Strong Spin-Orbit Interaction
A magnetoelectric mapping is demonstrated between dephasing effects of the magnetic vector potential and effects of an effective vector potential describing spin-orbit interaction. The experiments use spin-dependent mesoscopic quantum transport experiments on the narrow-gap semiconductor InSb and the semimetal Bi, both materials with strong spin-orbit interaction. The spin-orbit-induced antiloc...

Quantum interference effects and resulting quantum corrections of the conductivity have been intensively studied in disordered conductors over the last decades. The knowledge of phase coherence lengths and underlying dephasing mechanisms are crucial to understand quantum corrections to the resistivity in the different material systems. Due to the internal magnetic field and the associated break...
متن کاملKONDO EFFECT IN NON-EQUILIBRIUM Theory of energy relaxation induced by dynamical defects in diffusive nanowires
In diffusive Cu and Au quantum wires at finite transport voltage U the non-equilibrium distribution function f(E,U) exhibits scaling behavior, f(E, U) = f(E/eU), indicating anomalous energy relaxation processes in these wires. We show that in nonequilibrium the Kondo effect, generated either by magnetic impurities (single-channel Kondo effect) or possibly by non-magnetic, degenerate two-level s...
